A local group of runners was recently discussing our local marathon, Charlotte's Thunder Road and if it was 'a great race'. This made me wonder what characterizes a ‘great race’ and how Thunder Road measures up. Here are my thoughts...

A few more criteria . .

Smooth, easy access to a start / finish area
soul - each race has it's own spirit, some better then others
course beauty / interest
